Dr. Betty Berkeley Graduate Award
The Dr. Betty Berkeley Graduate Award in Interdisciplinary Studies is designed for students in either a Master of Arts or Master of Science degree in Interdisciplinary Studies. The award was established in 2002 by late Denton residents Dr. Betty Berkeley and her husband Dr. Marvin Berkeley. Dr. Betty Berkeley received her doctorate of education degree from UNT in 1980, while Dr. Marvin Berkeley served the university for 25 years as Dean of the College of Business Administration and a member of the college's faculty before his retirement in 1998. This award embodies the spirit of the Berkeley's dedication to academia.
Award at a Glance
Each year, one exemplary graduate student in the Interdisciplinary Studies program will receive a scholarship in the amount of $2,000 per academic year – $1,000 in the Fall and $1,000 in the Spring – and may be eligible for in-state tuition rates.
Applicant Eligibility Criteria
- The applicant must have a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA and be in good academic standing at the time of the award.
- The applicant must be enrolled as a student pursuing the Masters of Arts or Masters of Science Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies.
- The applicant must clearly demonstrate stellar performance in his or her coursework in graduate studies.
Award Term
Scholarship term for Fall 2024 - Spring 2025 semesters.
Application Deadline
May 1, 2024 at 11:59 P.M. Central Daylight Time (CDT).
Applying for the Dr. Betty Berkeley Graduate Award
Continuing and fully admitted graduate students that meet the eligibility requirements will need to submit UNT’s Eagle Scholarship Portal in order to be considered for this scholarship opportunity. In addition, applicants need to choose and submit required documents outlined for the Dr. Betty Berkeley Scholarship opportunity. The required documents for this scholarship opportunity are:

A personal statement which explains how your degree in interdisciplinary studies will impact your future career objectives. This may also include a brief overview of relevant past achievements that have guided you towards a degree in interdisciplinary studies and how this scholarship will help you to achieve your academic goals.

Two (2) letters of recommendation from faculty members who are familiar with your academic work.
